Bullet For My Valentine started their music career by covering songs by Nivarna and Metalica under the band name of "Jeff Killed John". In 2002 Jeff Killed John released a two track album called You/Play With Me. Jeff Killed John's band members wanted to follow the nu metal trend but as nu metal became less popular the band gave it one last try and changed their name to
Bullet For My Valentine and agreed to play the music they wanted to instead of following the influential bands at the time.
